How can I make sure my Instinct sensor lasts and stays on for 15 days?
Here are some tips to help you make it stick better:
- Select a flat area on the back of your upper arm (no bending or folding) and if you lead an active lifestyle, select a sensor site on the back of your upper arm that minimises the risk of the sensor being knocked off
- Sensors stick better when you wash, clean, and dry your skin before application.
- Trim long body hairs with a dry razor
- Application area should be free of soap, lotion, shampoo, or conditioner
- Overtape isn't required. You can usse additional tape over the sensor after insertion for extra hold and security, e.g. Leukoplast™, kinesiology tape, Hypafix™ Tape†. Leave an opening/hole in the center of tape so the centre of the sensor is not covered, in order to avoid moisture build-up under the adhesive. Do not remove the overtape once applied until the sensor is ready to be removed.
- If more adhesion is required, you can use a skin adhesive before inserting the sensor, e.g. I.V. Prep™ wipes, Skin Tac™ wipes†.
- Once you're wearing it, be careful not to catch your sensor on objects such as doorways, seat belts, and furniture edges.
- Try not to play with, pull, or frequently touch the sensor
- Be careful during everyday activities like undressing so that it doesn't catch on undergarments. And after a shower or swim§, take extra care when toweling off and pat it dry.

§ At the time of manufacture and when the reservoir and tubing are properly inserted, your pump is waterproof. It is protected against the effects of being underwater to a depth of up to 3.6 meters (12 feet) for up to 24 hours. This is classified as IPX8 rating . See user guide for more details. Do not take your Instinct sensor deeper than 1 meter (3 feet) or immerse it longer than 30 minutes in water. CGM readings may not be transmitted from the CGM to the pump while in water.
